You may have heard about Krokodil in the news recently, with headlines that include “Flesh- Eating Drug Comes To U.S.” or the “Zombie-Drug”. Krokodil is the street name for Desomorphine, a derivative of morphine that has very fast acting sedative effects along with a high similar to heroin. Once this lethal combination of hydrocarbons, paint thinners and a mix of other harmful chemicals gets injected, the damage to the blood vessels and tissue cause the flesh to rot from the inside out, hence the headlines.

This drug was said to originate in remote parts of Russia as an extremely cheap alternative to heroin, but reports have stated Krokodil has made its way to the U.S. These new cases have been investigated and whether confirmation or not of these cases being Krokodil, it is very important that people are still aware of the drug and its horrific effects.
