According to The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, DUI checkpoints are the most effective tool to combat drinking and driving. NBC News also said drug-related car accident fatalities in California have increased over 60% during the last ten years (from 428 in the year 2000 to almost 700 in the year 2010).

Concerned about impaired driving, car accident attorney Chris Purcell of Orange County recently authored a new infographic based on data from the California Office of Traffic Safety’s road side survey for 2012. The infographic reveals some findings from the survey: almost 15% of survey participants tested positive for illegal or prescription drugs. Marijuana was the most commonly used drug. Approximately 20% of the participants had consumed more than one drug. Over 5% of participants were driving under the influence of alcohol. Attorney Chris Purcell urges others to drive sober on California roads and highways.
