There are differences between normal social drinking and alcoholism. People may brush off their behavior as harmless social fun when in fact they may be suffering from alcoholism. There are ways to tell when you or someone you know has crossed the line and their drinking habits will show that. Alcohol is often times seen as the social lubricant for society and people often use this view to hide their addiction to the drug.

Once their drinking becomes an addiction their social behavior will begin to change. If someone has maybe withdrawn from their usual group and become isolated, or even found an entirely new group of drinking buddies, it may be because they will not feel criticized or judged by the people close to them. Other indicators can include aggressive behavior, self-absorption and neglect. Although many people feel alcohol encourages more social interaction, alcoholism can be damaging to a important relationships.
